Morgan Hill Kitchen Remodel, Vaulted Ceiling & Open-Plan Transformation

Completed kitchen with gray cabinetry, black hardware, open shelving, and the vaulted ceiling.

More height. More connection.

This Morgan Hill kitchen remodel opened up the home both visually and physically. Removing the lower ceiling and creating a vaulted ceiling added height, while opening the wall between the kitchen and dining room allowed both spaces to function as one connected gathering area.

Open shelving replaced the upper cabinets. New surfaces, lighting, fixtures, and appliances brought the room together, followed by soft-gray cabinet refinishing and black hardware.

01

Before

The original lower ceiling and dividing wall made the kitchen feel enclosed. Upper cabinets and the narrow doorway limited the visual connection to the dining room.

Before: the original cabinetry, countertops, and upper cabinets.

The transformation takes shape

With the major construction complete, the kitchen had already taken on an entirely different character. The original low ceiling was replaced with a vaulted ceiling, the adjoining wall was opened to improve the flow through the home, and upper cabinets gave way to open shelving. New countertops, backsplash tile, sink, faucet, lighting, and appliances were also in place. At this stage, only one major visual transformation remained: refinishing the cabinetry and replacing the original hardware.

Before cabinet refinishing: a wider view of the remodeled kitchen and surrounding space.
Progress: the increased ceiling height over the sink and open shelving.
Progress: new countertops, backsplash, shelving, and appliances before cabinet painting.
Progress: the kitchen finishes in place, with white cabinetry and silver knobs still visible.

Cabinet refinishing & painting

With the larger renovation complete, the existing cabinetry was carefully prepared and refinished in a soft gray. The surrounding kitchen was masked and protected during the process, followed by installation of new black hardware for the final finish.

Cabinet refinishing: protected surfaces around the sink and lower cabinetry.
Cabinet refinishing: the peninsula with its new gray finish during the painting process.

The completed kitchen

The refinished gray cabinetry and black hardware complete the transformation, while the vaulted ceiling, open shelving, updated finishes, and more connected layout give the kitchen a brighter and more spacious feel.
